Cabbage family plays a special role in preventing breast
cancer and detoxifying “cranky estrogen” that circulates through the body and
wreaks havoc after menopause. Plants in cruciferous family, particularly
broccoli are rich in indole-3-carbinol which, when digested turns into diindolylmethane
DIM. They help transport this cranky estrogen out of your body more efficiently
via the liver. Another compound in these foods, sulforaphane as you all know
protects us from cancer by improving immune response. Aim to include cabbage, Brussel
sprouts, arugula, kale turnips, cauliflower, bok choy, and watercress.
Cruciferous family also helps in detoxification. The
glucosinolates in the cruciferous vegetable family are substances that
specifically turn on many of the genes that regulate detox. The more of them
you consume the more powerfully will you activate your detoxification process.
A Rockefeller University professor of biochemistry Dr H Leon
Bradlow, has discovered that the same glucosinolates in crucifers that help to
detoxify foreign substances also help women safely metabolize and eliminates
the estrogen their bodies produce.
